Gift/Prepaid Card Program

The following links (under construction) will provide information for merchants, banks, processors, credit card customers, and nonprofit organizations (NPOs) on the operation and licensing of the EPC Core Gift/Prepaid program.

On February 18, 1993, Dr. Bertram V. Burke (co-founder of Every Penny Counts, Inc.) filed his first Point of Sale (POS) Open and Closed gift/prepaid card / saving / investing / nonprofit giving invention with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

On April 15, 1997, the USPTO issued Bert his first POS patent number US 5,621,640. Subsequently, he was issued four additional POS patents numbers: US 6,088,682, US 6,112,191, US 6,876,971, and US 7,171,370. All five POS patents were assigned by Bert to Every Penny Counts, Inc. (EPC).

In July 2007, in two law suits filed in Federal Court in Tampa, FL, EPC asserted that the following defendants have infringed one or more of its gift/prepaid card patents: VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Green Dot, First Data, InComm, Valutec, and Value Card Solutions. (Case No 8:07 – CV – 1254 and Case No 8:07 – CV – 1255)
